The Citizens Committee meetings are generally held the first Wednesday evening of each month at 6:00 pm at the Echo Park Library on Temple Street, and may be attended by the public. Until another permanent home for our meetings is found, the locations for each meeting may vary, but will be posted on the website at least a week prior to each meeting. Through our collaboration with Trash Free Earth and the LA Department of Recreation and Parks, park cleanups are held periodically throughout the year. On these occasions all volunteers are much appreciated to help with the upkeep of the park. Due to the size of the park, Clean-Ups focus on one section of the park at a time. Dates, times, and locations of the cleanups will be posted on our website, as well that of Trash Free Earth.
Traditionally, the Citizens Committee sponsors a Memorial Tree Planting ceremony in the Arboretum in the fall [to commemorate the memory of a loved one?] with the addition of an exquisite new tree. These plantings are generally held after the weather cools off in October or November.
During the past year, the Citizens Committee participated in planting over 300 new trees in the park with the help of City Plants, a public private-partnership between the City of Los Angeles, local non-profit organizations, community groups, residents, and businesses. As part of an on-going effort to re-forest the Park, the Committee plans to participate in more tree plantings in the future and will need the help of volunteers to plant trees. Notices of future plantings will be posted on this website.
